Blue Devil Mock Trial Team Advances To State

MADISON – After opening regional mock trial competition last week, the Wayne High red team secured two more wins recently to punch their ticket to state.

Back at the host site for the Region 6 mock trial competition, Madison County Courthouse in Madison, the Blue Devils were in action on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Earlier in the week, Wayne defeated South Sioux City in the regional semifinals before advancing to the regional finals set for Wednesday. On November 20, WHS then won against Lutheran High Northeast to qualify for the Nebraska State Mock Trial competition.

Josh Johnson, mock trial head coach stated, “(the) kids worked hard and presented the case well. South Sioux City threw a bunch of stuff at them but lawyers and witnesses worked well on their feet.”

Members of the state qualifying mock trial team are Christopher Archer, Easton and Treyton Blecke, Isaac Davis, Sydney Redden, Liam Spieker, Ruben Vega and Christopher Woerdemann.

The Wayne red mock trial team is now 6-0 in regional competition after also defeating Norfolk High #1; Norfolk High #2 (twice) and Lutheran High Northeast on Monday, November 11.

Coach added, “I am so proud of these guys and gal, and all four teams we had this year, on all of their hard work and dedication. They are all so involved in so many things and everything they touch seems to turn to gold. I am so blessed to be able to coach them. We are also so lucky and blessed to have an unbelievable attorney coach in Judge Robert Ensz. He has been so important to our success this year.”

State mock trial is scheduled for Monday and Tuesday, December 9-10 from the Justice and Law Enforcement Center in Lincoln.
