WAYNE – With two teams advancing one step away from the state tournament round, Wayne High mock trial competition rounded out their season earlier this week.
According to a release from head Mock Trial coach, Josh Johnson, Wayne High had a trio of teams in action last week during the regional semifinals.
Team #3 started off November 11 against Lutheran High Northeast #1. The team consisting of Gavin Anderson, Regan Fernau, Adrienne Anderson, Josie Ley, Sienna Klinetobe, Kenna Blecke, Lily Hurner, Jacen Hasemann and Aidan Bohnert presented the Plaintiff.
In a well fought match Wayne would unfortunately end up on the short end. The all-freshman team ended their season at 2-1 but with a very bright future ahead.
Team #1 consisting of Sierra Mutchler, Eli Barner, Easton Blecke, Maiah Davis, Mason Ley, Parker Kesting, Maddie Franta and Sophia Reeg competed in the afternoon in a rematch against South Sioux City #2. With Wayne presenting the plaintiff, the two teams once again battled back and forth with Wayne coming out on top again.
Wayne #1 advanced to the regional finals on November 15 held in West Point
Wayne Mock Trial team #2 competed earlier this week on November 14 during the semifinals of the regional mock trial tournament. The team of Liberty Titiml, Kate Hill, Amelia Legler, Judith Echeveste-Morales, Gavin Redden, Alondra Vega, Nyamalo Kantai, Laura Hasemann and Ava Elliott presented the defense side of the case. In an extremely tight match against Norfolk High, Wayne #2 came out on top. With the win they also moved on to the regional finals held in West Point on November 15 against South Sioux City.
Moving into the regional finals, both Wayne #1 and #2 Mock Trial teams competed on Tuesday for a chance to get to the state tournament. Wayne #2 lost a split decision against South Sioux City while Wayne #1 lost a tough one as well to LHNE. Both teams ended their season at 3-1 and earned regional runner-up recognition.
