PONCA – Join Ponca State Park for a fun filled Saturday as they host Birds and Breakfast on February, 16.
A delicious breakfast menu is planned to get the day underway from 8-9:30 a.m. in the Riverbluff Room of the Resource and Education Center. There will be egg casserole, sausage, muffins, and mixed fruit. To register for breakfast call Ponca State Park at 402-755-2284. Cost is $5 for children six and under and $6 for ages seven and up.
After you fill your belly with a scrumptious breakfast, take part in the Great Backyard Bird Count Tours. An expert birder from the Loess Hills Audubon Society will guide you as you explore Ponca State Park and the surrounding areas. Sign up at the front desk of the Resource and Education Center. This event is free but there is a limit to ten people per tour. Tours are scheduled from 9-10:30 a.m. and again from 10:45-12:15. Binoculars are available for use all day with adult supervision. You can check them out at the front desk of the Resource and Education Center.
At 1 p.m. enjoy some arts and crafts as participants will be able to make bird popsicles. Preregister, pay and meet at the Resource and Education Center. There is a limit of 30 people while cost is $1 per treat.
From 2:30-4:30 take part in an ice fishing clinic. Equipment and bait will be provided as you learn how to catch and clean rainbow trout. Meet at the pond near the Resource and Education Center for this free event. Anyone 16 years of age or older will need a fishing license.
All throughout the day put your knowledge of birds to the test during the Ponca State Park Bird Behavior Scavenger Hunt. Check off 12 bird behaviors that you are able to witness and receive a prize. Pick up a Scavenger Hunt list at the Resource and Education Center.
