WAYNE – As temperatures are on the rise, it’s time to “gear” up for National Bike Month and the Wayne Rotary Club will be hosting a bike fixit event this weekend.
National Bike Month is May.
Join the Rotary Club of Wayne and the Wayne State College Rotaract Club on Saturday, April 20 for a pair of fixit sessions. Those who attend will learn more about the Dero Fixit bike repair stations that were recently installed along the City of Wayne walking and biking trail and on the Wayne State College campus.
Volunteers will be available Saturday to educate bicyclists about the features of each Fixit station and assist with basic maintenance from 9 – 11 a.m. at the City of Wayne walking and biking trail (near the softball batting cage). Another event will be held at Wayne State College from 1 until 3 p.m. (next to the bike racks outside of the Wayne State College U.S. Conn Library).
The Rotary Club of Wayne was awarded a Rotary District 5650 Grant to purchase the two Fixit stations. The City of Wayne and Wayne Green Team were both instrumental in the grant request process by writing a letter of support. The City of Wayne and Wayne State College installed their own station and the Wayne Green Team assisted with planning and promotion.
The Fixit stations are the first of their kind in northeast Nebraska as each station includes basic bike maintenance tools and an air pump. In addition, each station includes a QR code which instantly takes mobile device users to a comprehensive bike repair website.
