A Bellevue man sentenced to 30 years in prison after he led authorities on a high-speed chase into Iowa has been returned to Nebraska to face charges.
William Leslie Stanfill III, 29, was booked into the Sarpy County Jail on Tuesday. He is charged in an arrest warrant with three counts of use of a weapon to commit a felony, unlawful discharge of a firearm and first-degree assault.
Stanfill pleaded guilty to six felonies in Iowa in connection with a chase that occurred April 25. He was sentenced to two 15-year prison terms.
Authorities said the pursuit originated in a road-rage shooting April 24 in Bellevue. It ended when a Chevy Malibu crashed into the Nishnabotna River near the Iowa-Missouri border. Stanfill and a female passenger were treated at the hospital for minor injuries and then booked into jail after they were released.
