Apartments, Businesses On West Side Of Town Impacted During Thursday Evening Outage

WAYNE – Power was restored by City of Wayne crews late Thursday evening following a power outage to the western edge of the town.

Bauer Underground, a sub-contractor for Allo Communications, is doing fiber work. They hit a power line around 5 p.m. on Thursday, March 25.

City Administrator, Wes Blecke said power was restored around 10:30 p.m.

“One reason why it took so long was they had to first find it,” said Blecke. “It was a little more difficult to find. A lot of times you’d back feed, if something like that was hit, you’d back feed someplace else.”

The power was on a radial line that doesn’t have a loop to back feed as Blecke added electricity doesn’t like to end at one point.

“That’s something that we have to improve in the future,” Blecke added. “We have to put a new line in at some point. Usually when there’s growth, you don’t put in lines just to put in lines, but this one might be one where we need to consider.”

Apartments on both the east and west side of Pac N Save along with Pac N Save and businesses across the highway were impacted for a longer period of time.

“As of now they’re still pulling conduit and stuff in that area so we’re still watching it,” Blecke mentioned. “But yeah, it was a line that was hit and it had to be sliced. So, as of now power is back on and good to go.”

If any additional power outages are experienced, contact the Wayne Police Department at 402-375-2626.
