WEST POINT, NE – With county fairs and annual community celebrations being either scaled down or cancelled, it comes as no surprise that this year’s Last Fling ‘Til Spring Car Show in West Point will not happen.
The Last Fling ‘Til Spring Car Show had been scheduled for September 20th, 2020. Instead, fans of the event will have to wait until September 19th, 2021. In announcing the show’s cancellation, the West Point Road Gems Car Club states – “Due to circumstances surrounding COVID-19 pandemic we have made this very difficult decision. Based on what we know today and working with the local health department, large gatherings of people will not be allowed without some type of restrictions.”
As the area’s largest car show, The Last Fling ‘Til Spring typically draws in excess of 15,000 people a year and up to 800 cars to the West Point community.
The origination of The Last Fling ‘Til Spring Show goes back to 1990, where it was originally part of a now-defunct Oktoberfest celebration. The car show was such a resounding success that it was retained and expanded to include a live music venue. Known for it’s huge trophies, the show draws entrants from hundreds of miles away and is a prolific economic generator for West Point businesses.
In the cancellation statement, The Road Gems say – “We would like to thank all of our sponsors and volunteers that help us to keep this show going every year. It has been a successful 30 years of the show and looking forward to another 30+ years!”
For now, car enthusiasts can look forward this Saturday’s car show in Wayne as part of the abbreviated one-day Wayne Chicken Show. For that event, registration begins at 11am and the show will run until 4pm.
