Annual Banquet Tickets Are On Sale, Dessert Auction Highlighted During Event

WAYNE – Tickets for the 2019 Wayne Area Economic Development Annual Banquet went on sale Monday as this year’s theme is “Flourish In Wayne”.

Scheduled for Sunday, January 27, 2019 the event will be held at The Beaumont Event & Concert Hall from 4-7 p.m. Semi-formal, business attire is requested.

The event is made to celebrate the growth of Wayne and everything that has happened in 2018.

Abby Schademann is the coordinator of marketing, events and tourism with WAED. Schademann talked about the schedule.

“Kind of going along the line of moving the times up earlier this year like we did last year, we had really good feedback for that,” said Schademann. “From 4-5 p.m. is more like a social hour with dinner being served at 5 p.m. Then after we’ll be doing a dessert auction.”

The dessert auction is something new this year and WAED members are looking for a certain amount of people to donate desserts.

“If anybody is interested in providing a dessert or donating it contact the chamber,” Schademann added. “We’ll have those deserts ready to be auctioned off to the highest bidder and once they’re out they’re out. So, you want to make sure you get your bids in very quickly.”

The program with awards will follow as well.

Cost per person is $30 while a table of eight is $275 with additional items. The deadline to purchase tickets is Friday, January 18.

Nominations from the general public are being accepted for award categories. Singular or packaged submissions are being accepted for Citizen of the Year and Educator of the Year as Business of the Year and Most Valuable Patron will also be awarded. Nominations are due to the WAED office (108 W 3rd Street) by Friday, December 28.

**Find the Citizen of the Year and Educator of the Year forms under the WAED newsletter.

Selection committees will have one week to review and score the submissions.

Proceeds from the desert auction will go towards purchasing new American flags that are put up along Highway 35 during the summer.

“We want to always make sure those are in the best conditions that they can be,” Schademann mentioned. “So, those proceeds will go towards purchasing new ones and make it be welcoming to the community.”

Members with the Special Events Committee are also collecting donations for the traditional silent auction that raises funds for a Wayne State College scholarship. Contact a member or the WAED office if your business has an item to donate.
