Annual Banquet Set For January 31, Nominations Now Being Accepted

WAYNE – As the Special Events Committee with Wayne Area Economic Development continues to plan the annual banquet, nominations for several awards are now being accepted.

According to a release from WAED, this year’s theme is ‘Community & Unity’ and the banquet is being scheduled for Sunday, January 31 from the Beaumont Event and Concert Hall.

Awards for Business of the Year, Most Valuable Patron, Educator of the Year and Citizen of the Year will be announced. Nominations are due back to the office by Thursday, December 31. Contact the WAED office at 402-375-2240 for more information.

The awards are sponsored by the Wayne Area Economic Development, Chamber and Main Street. A selection committee will review nominations and the recipients will be honored at the banquet.

The 2019 Business of the Year was 1st Reality Sales & Management, the 2019 Most Valuable Patron was Northeast Nebraska Public Health, the 2019 Citizen of the Year was Ken Kwapnioski and the 2019 Educator of the Year was Toni Rasmussen.

WAED staff still plans on offering their dessert and silent auctions as the meal could look a bit different with COVID-19 restrictions.

Anyone who is wanting to help plan the Banquet, or any of the other special events, is welcome to contact the WAED office. The group generally meets on the first Wednesday of the month at noon at The Table Coffee House.
