American Idol Winner To Visit WSC, Retro Mom Prom Fundraising To Support Wayne Public Library

WAYNE – An American Idol winner will be in Wayne America later this week while Friends of the Wayne Public Library will be hosting a fundraiser.

According to a release from Director of College Relations, Jay Collier, Wayne State College will welcome 2018 American Idol winner Maddie Poppe to campus at 8 p.m. on Friday, August 26.

This concert will close out the first week of classes and is a free event, which is open to the public. Friday night’s performance will be held in the college’s Willow Bowl amphitheater.

Poppe is a multi-instrumentalist—playing the guitar, piano, and ukulele in her unique indie pop and folk music. Hand-in-hand with her American Idol victory, Poppe won a People’s Choice Award for her turn on the show, had Whirlwind hit Number 2 on the iTunes Pop Charts, and went on to become a hot guest on The Kelly Clarkson Show, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Live With Kelly & Ryan and Good Morning America. All of this in addition to touring the country opening for Ingrid Michaelson and headlining her own tours, including a Christmas run that has become a seasonal “must” for Poppe’s fans.

According to a release from WSC Music Instructor and Theatre Manager, Melissa Derechailo, Friends of the Wayne Public Library invite all to put your old prom dress on and participate in the Retro Mom Prom on Saturday, August 27.

The event will last from 7 – 11 p.m. at the Wayne City Auditorium.

Attendees should come dressed to impress from their favorite decade and dance the night away while raising funds for the Wayne Public Library.

Snacks, punch and a chocolate fountain will be provided as well as a cash bar. There will also be raffles for items donated by Wayne businesses and organizations, as well as a split the pot raffle.

Event officials state you don’t need to be a mom to come, so don’t forget to bring a date and all adults are welcome. Tickets are available for $20 at the library and at the door. This event is sponsored in part by the Wayne Herald and Wayne State College.
