PONCA — Celebrate the weekend at Ponca State Park with fun programs for all ages. Events start on Saturday morning from 9-11 a.m. with an introduction to archery and shotgun course. Meet at the Eric Wiebe Shooting Complex. Cost is $1 per 6 arrows and $7 per box of shotgun shells. At 11:30 a.m. join in on the ever-popular critter corner program and learn about the wildlife found along the Missouri River. Meet at the Resource and Education Center for this free program.

From 1:30-2:30 p.m. educate yourself on the “Superpowers of Water”. This free exhibit will be held at the pool.

At 2:30 p.m. join a Ponca State Park naturalist and head to the pond to catch the wildlife that call it home during the “Puddles of Fun” program. Wear clothing that can get wet and meet at the Resource and Education Center.

At 4 p.m. enjoy the artwork of a local wood carver and learn tricks to carve your very own creations out of soap. Cost is $1 per craft and there is a limit of 20 participants. This event will also be held at the Resource and Education Center.

From 5:30-6:15 p.m. celebrate the 4th of July a couple days light by having children join in on the Kids Parade. Kids from the Resource and Education Center will be invited on a hayrack ride that will travel to Turkey Ridge Campground. The same will be done at 6:15 at the Oak Bluff Campground. Preregister at the Resource and Education Center. Limit of 25 participants per time slot.

At 7:30 and 8:30 p.m. end the evening with a Hayrack Tour. This guided tour will make stops at the Tristate Overlook, Towers of Time, and the Riverfront as it travels through Ponca State Park. Cost is $5 for adults and $3 for kids. No alcohol or pets allowed and there is a maximum of 25 participants.

On Sunday get the morning started with an introductory course on tomahawk and atlatl from 9-11 a.m. Cost is $1 per 6 throws.

At 1:30 p.m. join in on a wildflower prairie walk around the park. Preregister the Resource and Education Center by 11:30 a.m. and plan to return there at 3 p.m.

At 2:30 p.m. make a pizza directly over a fire pit and learn the art of campfire pizza cooking in a pie iron. Meet at the Resource and Education Center. Cost is $3 per person. Limit of 20 people.
