WAYNE – All are invited to a community meeting this week discussing the Wayne Ace taking the place of Shopko in Wayne.

The Ace Community Meeting will be hosted by Wayne Area Economic Development (WAED) on behalf of the Ace Investors and be held on Wednesday, November 6. The event will take place at the Wayne Fire Hall (510 Tomar Drive) starting at 7 p.m.

Community members are welcome to join local Ace Investors and provide input on home goods, personal goods and other products that are most needed in town.

Shopko closed their doors this past summer and the building is located at 615 Dearborn Street. The closing announcement came in March as WAED and their partners started working to recruit a viable retail replacement.

Primary Ace Investors have been Steve LeGrand, BJ Woehler and Mike McManigal who attended the October 1 City Council meeting.

Discussion began in June with Ace as three major factors stood out. Ace champions customer service, encourages their local stores to be committed to their local community and most importantly, carries far more products than traditional hardware or tools associated with the Ace Hardware brand.

If everything works out, Ace Investors hope to open the Wayne Ace in the spring of 2020.

Those wondering what Ace can bring to a community are being instructed to visit the Columbus, Blair and Yankton, South Dakota stores.

More information will be provided during the community meeting.
