WAYNE – From Henoween, to the parade and events at Bressler Park along with a car show, the 2021 Wayne Chicken Show is scheduled for Friday, July 9 – Sunday, July 11.
This year’s theme is ‘Wayne America’s Chicken Vacation’.
A note from Wayne Area Economic Development, their office will be closed on Friday, July 2 but open on Monday, July 5 in preparation for the Wayne Chicken Show. No chamber coffee this week (July 2)
The Clucktique sidewalk market will be joined with craft vendors along Main Street from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. with Friday morning. Chamber Coffee being hosted by the Wayne Chicken Show Committee at 10 a.m. on July 9.
Marketing, Events and Tourism Coordinator at WAED, Abby Schademann also said there’ll be a dunk tank this year.
“We have somebody that wants to be ‘dunked’,” said Schademann. “But we are looking for a few people to kind of help monitor that. So, if you are interested or you have a group that would be interested, please contact the office and we’ll get you guys set up.”
The dunk tank will last from 6 – 10 p.m. on Friday and noon until 4 p.m. on Saturday (July 9 – 10).
Food and craft vendors will be located along Main Street
The ‘World’s Largest Chicken Dance’ will begin at 6 p.m. put on by KTCH/KCTY and led by WSC and WHS cheer squads while another new activity will be ‘Water Balloon Wars’ hosted by the Majestic Theatre on the east side of the theatre. Buckets of water balloons will be available for purchase.
Stage activities will begin at 6:30 p.m. which include the Quilts of Valor presentation.
The Cement Chicken Auction will take place at 7 p.m. on Friday, July 9 on stage at 3rd & Main. The decorated cement chickens will be auctioned off next week being a fundraiser for future chicken show events.
“Please remember that as you’re looking at the chickens and somebody is maybe bidding you up,” Schademann added. “Those proceeds help keep all of our activities free, so there is now admission for the chicken show.”
Pizza Hut’s Saucy Hot Wing eating contest will be at 8 p.m. with ‘Good Morning Bedlam’ providing music at 8:30 p.m. being a Folk-Indy band from Minnesota. ‘Light Up The Sky’ fireworks will then close out the July 9 events from the Summer Sports Complex at 10 p.m. Tune your radio to Big Red Country ‘KTCH’ 104.9 or online at waynedailynews.com for the music to go along with the fireworks.
Several events will be happening around town on Saturday, July 10 from a co-ed sand volleyball tournament, 3v3 outdoor basketball tournament, slow pitch softball tournament, cornhole tournament and the 5k Chicken Run.
Saturday’s parade will begin at 9:30 a.m.
Moving over to Bressler Park registration will open at noon for the National Cluck-off and hard-boiled egg eating contest. Reinvented Wheels will provide entertainment at noon with chicken show events beginning at 1 p.m. being Chicken Scratch for Prizes, Chicken Flying contest, Little Chick auction, best chicken legs, National Cluck-Off (around 1:30 p.m.), Pizza Hut Hard Boiled Egg Eating contest, Rubber Chicken Chuck, Egg Toss and Egg Drop (ending around 3:30 p.m.)
Moving into the final day of the Wayne Chicken Show, the Crowing Motors Car Show will last from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. on 2nd Street (near State Nebraska Bank & Trust).
