LINCOLN – A handful of northeast Nebraska students were awarded scholarships who will be furthering their education goals in the 2020-21 academic year.
According to a release from the Nebraska Cattleman Foundation (NCF), 48 scholarship recipients were named totaling $61,200 worth in scholarship funds.
The Foundation strongly believes in the importance of a sound education for tomorrow’s industry leaders and is pleased to be able to provide this funding to these outstanding students to aid in their academic career. Due to the generosity of many donors and the success of NCF’s Retail Value Steer Challenge fundraising project, the Foundation was able to offer an additional $5,000 in scholarship funds over last years awarded scholarships.
Northeast Nebraskans included Lauren Ahlers from Rosalie ($1,000 Retail Value Steer Challenge Scholarship); Clay Curtis from Royal ($1,000 Retail Value Steer Challenge Scholarship); Elizabeth Karnopp of Oakland ($1,000 Retail Value Steer Challenge Scholarship); Shalyn Miller of Norfolk ($1,200 Cattlemen’s Open Scholarship); Taylor Peter from O’Neill ($1,000 Retail Value Steer Challenge Scholarship) and Bailee Porter of Norfolk ($1,000 Retail Value Steer Challenge Scholarship).
The 2020 Nebraska Cattlemen Beef State Scholarship was awarded to Renae Sieck of Martell. This premier scholarship is a $10,000 scholarship that was established in 2014 to support outstanding junior, senior or graduate level Nebraska resident students enrolled in a Nebraska college or university pursuing a beef industry related degree. Renae is currently working on her Master of Science degree at the University of Nebraska in Animal Breeding and Genetics.
President of the Nebraska Cattlemen’s Foundation, Mark Jagels recently recognized the scholarships recipients and would like to congratulate all who were involved.
“We couldn’t do this, the Cattlemen’s Foundation couldn’t do this without the support of the Nebraska Cattlemen and the allied industry members for making this support,” said Jagels. “We ask you to sure be in touch with us if you would like to make a donation and we’d look forward to our next Retail Steer Challenge coming up this next year.”
In addition to the Beef State Scholarship, the Foundation awarded 47 additional scholarships to the following students:
