WAYNE – The first Friday of May focused on the Majestic Theatre during the weekly Chamber Percs event put on by Wayne Area Economic Development.
On December 31, the non-profit independent movie theatre saw a new coordinator take over being Tim Bartz. Bartz is a former chef and kitchen manager in South Dakota and also a current student at Wayne State College.
Even though the updated Directed Health Measures would allow businesses to open under new guidelines, the Majestic will not be showing any movies until further notice, according to Bartz.
“We want to make sure that everyone is as safe as they could be,” said Bartz. “We don’t want to put anybody at risk that doesn’t need to be at risk. We want to make sure that nobody has any unnecessary contact and we just want to keep our neighbors safe.
The Majestic Theatre will continue to follow the state and local guidelines and will stay up to date on the cases.
Although the Majestic is closed, they’re still offering options for movie nights at your own home.
“We are selling concessions from 4 – 7 p.m. Friday and Sunday nights and Sunday from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.,” Bartz added. “The Sunday hours might change just to see if maybe people want to get stuff early and they can settle in for Sunday night instead of having to wait until 4 o’clock.”
Prices are discounted as popcorn is $4, candy, bottled drinks and small fountain sodas are $3 and large fountain sodas are $5. Call 402-833-1833 ahead to place your order or pull up for curbside delivery.
“We’re not allowing people into the theatre itself, into the lobby,” Bartz mentioned. “But you can come up and I have signs out front asking you to wait. So, you can come right to the door, order, I’ll see you, come out, take your order and we’ll get you going with concessions right away.”
All forms of payment will be accepted.
The Majestic Movie Theatre is also in the works of putting together a drive-thru movie. Theatre officials are looking to set a date in the next couple of weeks as they finalize partnerships.
The Majestic Theatre opened its doors on December 18, 2010 and is located at 310 Main Street. Visit www.majesticonmain.org or like The Majestic Theatre on Facebook for more information.
Chamber Percs will return this Friday, May 8 at 10:15 a.m. and can be viewed on the Wayne, NE Facebook page.
