100th Year of Veterans, Armistice Day To Be Celebrated This Weekend

WINSIDE – Organizations or individuals may register for “Toll the Bells” this weekend as Veterans Day approaches.

Following an American Legion Family meeting, the World War I Centennial Commission and Commemorative Partners are calling on all Americans everywhere to toll the bells on Sunday, November 11. The event is scheduled for 11 a.m. local time.

In honor of the 116,516 Americans who died in “The War to End All Wars”, the group asks for those to toll their bells 21 times, at five second intervals.

Veterans Day, originally called Armistice Day will be on Sunday, November 11 and designated as a Federal Holiday on Monday, November 12. The day marks the Centennial Commemoration of the end of World War 1 on November 11, 1918.

Veterans Day is intended to thank all those who honorably served in the military, in war time or peace time.
