Funeral Services for Mary Ann Baier, age 83, of Wayne will be at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Wayne on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. Visitation will be at Our Savior Lutheran Church on Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. with family present. Arrangements are with Hasemann Funeral Home of Wayne. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Wayne. She passed away Saturday at Providence Medical Center in Wayne. Memorials may be directed to Our Savior Lutheran Church.
Mary Ann Baier was born November 3, 1934, on a farm southeast of Wayne to Oscar and Louisa (Brune) Hoeman. She was baptized and confirmed at the Theophilus Evangelical Church near Winside. She attended rural Wayne County School and graduated 4th in her class from Winside High School in 1952. She attended Wayne State College and was employed in the Wayne County Treasurers Office. Mary Ann married Gilbert Baier February 15, 1955, at the Theophilus Evangelical Church near Winside. In 1981, she started her own cleaning business and began working at Wayne Family Practice Group from 1988 to 2001. The couple farmed south of Wayne and were members of Redeemer Lutheran Church. She moved into Wayne in 1988. Mary Ann married Douglas G. Wagner May 6, 1999 and they resided in Wayne.
Mary Ann is survived by her husband, Doug Wagner; daughter, Beth Kauffman (Gene) Bergstrom of Gretna; grandchildren, Abbie, Adam, Angie and Alaina Kauffman of Gretna; sister, Adeline Anderson of Norfolk; step-children, Jeanne (Phil) Westrom of Greeley, CO, Walt (Dawn) Wagner of Norfolk and Sara (Justin) Polak of Norfolk; step-grandchildren, Jackson Polak, Stefan, Jason, Owen and Connor Wagner of Norfolk; sister-in-law, Eva Hoemann of Lincoln; many nieces and nephews.
Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Gilbert in 1988; son, Clark Baier in 1965; brothers, Theodore “Ted” (Evelyn) Hoeman and Clarence Hoemann; sisters and brothers-in-law, Bonnell (Ed) Doescher, Rosalie (Willis) Meyer, Loretta (Gordon) Hein; and Lee Anderson.
