Mary Lou Koester, age 86, of Allen

Funeral services for Mary Lou Koester, age 86, of Allen will be at the United Methodist Church in Allenon Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. Visitation will be held at United Methodist Church in Allenon Tuesday from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. with family present.Arrangements are with Hasemann Funeral Home of Wayne. Interment will be at Eastview Cemetery in Allen. She passed away Thursday at Providence Medical Center in Wayne.Memorials may be directed to the United Methodist Church in Allen.

Mary Lou Inez Koester was born March 4, 1931, to Ben and Inez (Emry) Jackson on their farm near Allen. She graduated from Allen High School in 1948, attended training and taught at schools in the Allen area. Mary Lou married Duane Koester on September 28, 1950, at the Allen Methodist Church. The two had met years earlier riding the same school bus. Following Duane’s military discharge the couple farmed west of Allen, raising six children there. In 1983, they moved to a home in Allen.

Mary Lou was an active member of the Allen United Methodist Church, serving as an officer for the U.M.W. on both the local and district levels. She was a longtime member of the Elf Club and the Allen American Legion Auxiliary. Mary Lou so enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She will be remembered for her caring nature towards everyone she met.

Mary Lou is survived by her children, Valerie (Jon) Rastede of Ashland, MO; Joan (Bernard) Jorgensen of Winnetoon, Jim (Barbara) Koester of York, Lindy (Lori) Koester of Concord, Lula Koester of Missoula, MT and Doug (June) Koester of Laurel;  14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren;  brothers, Gaylen (Carol) Jackson of Sioux City, IA and Jerry (Libby) Jackson of Heber Springs, AR; brother-in-law Larry Koester of Allen; sister-in-law, Carol Ann (Duane) Roberts of  Hermiston, OR;  nieces and nephews.

Mary Lou was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Duane in 1996; son, Daniel; brother, Gene Jackson; sisters-in-law, Evelyn Jackson, Marcia (McAfee) Lundin and Glory Ann Koester; brothers-in-law, Larry McAfee and Gene Lundin.
