Memorial services for Steph Carlson, age 65, of Winside will be at the Winside American Legion Hall on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. Memorial Visitation will be at the Winside American Legion Hall on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. until service time. Arrangements are with Hasemann Funeral Home of Wayne. Interment with Military Rites will be at Pleasant View Cemetery in Winside. He died Monday in Winside.
Stephen Alvin Carlson was born May 24, 1952, in Norfolk to Alvin and Leola (Jurgens) Carlson. He graduated from Winside High School in 1970, where he was the first wrestling state champ in Winside. He attended college before serving in the United States Army as a Medical Specialist from January 28, 1972 until his discharge on January 27, 1978. Steph worked in 49 of the 50 states and overseas. Steph was a masonry designer for Cemrock and later Larson and kept in contact with his co-workers. He enjoyed hunting, card playing, wrestling, woodworking, the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals and the Huskers. He loved spending time with family especially his niece and nephews. Steph had a big heart and was a sincere friend to many. He was a member of the Winside American Legion Post #252.
Steph is survived by his mother, Esther Carlson of Winside; brother, Chad (Michelle) Carlson of Winside, nephews, Alex, Tyler, and Landon; niece, Alayna; special friend, Alesia Rottler of Norfolk; aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Steph was preceded in death by his grandparents; father and mother, Alvin and Leola.
