Funeral Services for Bonnie Hirchert, age 86, of Laurel, formerly of Dixon, will be held at United Methodist Church in Laurel on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. Visitation will be held at United Methodist Church in Laurel on Monday from 5:00-7:00 p.m. with family present. Interment will be at Laurel Cemetery in Laurel. She passed away on Thursday at Park View Haven Nursing Home in Coleridge. Arrangements are with Hasemann Funeral Home of Laurel.
Bonnie Mae Hirchert was born August 26, 1931, on the family farm near Dixon to Ernest and Mable (Fitch) Knoell. She grew up and attended school in Dixon and went on to graduate from Dixon High School in 1948. She attended 12 weeks of college at Wayne State College and then taught in schools for three years. Bonnie met her husband, Carol, through her brother and sister-in-law, in 1948. They were married December 28, 1950, at the United Methodist Church in Dixon. Bonnie traveled with Carol to several army training bases. The couple spent several years farming near Dixon. Over the years, the couple lived in the Dixon, Laurel, and Wayne communities. She sold Avon and then became the Dixon Post Master. Bonnie was a 4-H leader, member of a county extension club and was a skilled seamstress. They retired and moved into Laurel. She was a former member of the Dixon United Methodist Church where she held several church board offices and currently is a member of the United Methodist Church in Laurel. Bonnie moved to Park View Haven in Coleridge on July 11, 2017.
Bonnie is survived by her children, Lucinda (Cindy) White of Sioux City, IA, Vickie Hirchert of South Sioux City, Brian Hirchert of Wynot, and Sandra (Raymond) Butts of Monroe, MI; sisters, Melva Pinkelman of Coleridge and Marlene (Melfred) Petersen of Hinton, IA; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Richard (Linda) Hirchert of Dakota City; and nieces and nephews.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Carol in 2012; sister, JoEllen Stolze; brothers, Boyd and Donald Knoell; and sister-in-law Bonnie (Hirchert) Knoell.
