John Rees, age 87, of Wayne, formerly of Carroll

Funeral Services for John Rees, age 87, of Wayne, formerly of Carroll, will be held at First Presbyterian Church in Wayne on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m.  Visitation will be held at Hasemann Funeral Home in Wayne on Tuesday from 5:00-7:00 p.m. with family present.  Interment will be at Elmwood Cemetery in Carroll.  Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation.  He passed away on Sunday at Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk.  Arrangements are with Hasemann Funeral Home of Wayne.
John Howell Rees was born October 22, 1930, on a farm west of Carroll to David and Salome (Edwards) Rees. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Congregational Church near Carroll. He graduated from Carroll High School in 1948, and attended Wayne State College. He married Dorothy Mae Hurlbert March 23, 1951, at the United Methodist Church in Carroll. They farmed west of Carroll until moving to Wayne in 1997. John was in service and sales at Zach Propane for 30 years. John and Dorothy were members of Zion Congregational Church, and Bethany Presbyterian Church near Carroll before each congregation closed. They were currently members of the First Presbyterian Church in Wayne. John was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star in Wayne, serving as Past Master Mason. He enjoyed traveling with Dorothy.

John is survived by his children, Penny (Rob) Williams - Wirtala of Las Vegas, NV, Tim (Cheryl) Rees of Elkhorn, and Holly (Verlyn) Stoltenberg of Carroll; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Gayle Hurlbert - Morin of Lincoln; nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dorothy in 2012; brother, Everett (Verna) Rees; and sisters, Myfanwy “Bonnie” (C.L.) Wilcox and Marguerite (Mitch) Moret; and brother-in-law, Jim Hurlbert.
