Melvin Jenkins, age 95, of Carroll

Funeral services for Melvin Jenkins, age 95, of Carroll, will be held at United Methodist Church in Carroll on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. Visitation will be at Hasemann Funeral Home in Wayne on Friday from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. with family present. Interment with Military Rites will be at Bethany Cemetery in rural Carroll. He passed away Tuesday at Providence Medical Center in Wayne. Memorials may be directed to the Jenkins family for later designation.
Melvin Albert Jenkins was born January 13, 1922, in Peetz, CO to Albert and Sarah Ann (Morris) Jenkins. When the family moved to Carroll, Melvin attended rural school at District #83. He was a hired man for area farmers. He served in the U.S. Cavalry from April 13, 1945 to December 9, 1946, and then was employed as a mechanic for the Allis Chalmers dealership in Wayne. Melvin married Lucile Richards February 19, 1947. The couple lived in Wayne for a short time and then farmed southwest of Carroll. In January of 1990, they moved into Carroll. Melvin was a member of the Carroll V.F.W. and American Legion and a former member of Bethany Presbyterian Church, rural Carroll.
Melvin is survived by his sons, Gary (Connie) Jenkins of Okoboji, IA, Doug (Jana) Jenkins, Greg Jenkins, and Todd (Mary) Jenkins, all of Carroll; five grandchildren, Scott, Valerie, Shawn, Jaci, and Madison; great-grandchildren, Alexander, Garrett, Morgan, and Casey; nieces and nephews.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lucile in 2008; daughter, Beverly; great-granddaughter, Lauren Jenkins; three brothers: Lewis Jenkins, Roy Jenkins, and Ray Jenkins, and three sisters, Valda Eckmann, Helen Meyers, and Wilva Jenkins.
