Kathleen Kay Fink was born March 29, 1949 in Bloomfield to Elmer & Evelyn “Mike” (Lovejoy) Klein. She was raised on a thriving northeast Nebraska farm where she contributed to the daily responsibilities of life on the farm. She attended nearby Crofton High School where she was crowned Crofton’s Jubilee Queen. After graduating high school in 1967, she attended Wayne State College to pursue a degree in education. During her time at WSC, she was involved in numerous campus activities and was even crowned Queen of the Green & Homecoming Queen during her time there. While at Wayne State, she met her future husband Ron Fink of Schiller Park, Illinois. Kathy graduated college in 1971 and started her teaching career at Wayne Community Schools. Ron and Kathy were married in 1972 and planted their own family roots in Wayne where they raised two children, Jason and Carrie. Kathy taught typing, Home Economics, Family & Consumer Science for 33 years, impacting the countless lives of her students and colleagues. After retiring from Wayne Public Schools in 2006, Kathy worked for Haven House in Wayne supporting women in need and also did a short interim at WSC teaching Family & Personal Relationships before moving to their cabin on beautiful Lewis & Clark Lake. Kathy enjoyed hosting her family and friends for long summer weekends and holidays at the cabin. In 2014, after the passing of her beloved husband Ron, Kathy moved to Omaha, where she spent much of her time reconnecting with friends, attending her grandchildren’s activities, and sewing. In the last few years, she acquired a passion for yoga, which she did nearly every morning. She also shared dear relationship with her special friend Jim Fletcher who was a dedicated companion in her final years.
