Funeral Services for Vernon Edward Miller, 85, of Norfolk, will be held at Christ Lutheran Church in Norfolk on Saturday, August 19, at 10:30 a.m., with Reverend Chip Winter officiating.  Visitation will be held at Stonacek Funeral Chapel in Norfolk on Friday from 5:00-8:00 p.m.  Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Wayne.  He passed away on Monday at Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk.  Memorials may be made to the family for a future designation.  Arrangements are with Stonacek Funeral Chapel of Norfolk.  Condolences may be expressed to the family online at

Vernon Edward Miller was born February 26, 1932 at the family farm in rural Winside to Adolf and Ella (Hintz) Miller.  He was baptized March 13, 1932 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Winside.  He was confirmed December 10, 1944 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.  He graduated from Winside High School in 1949 and was married to Lois Boyce on December 9, 1951 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Winside.  After Vernon and Lois were married they farmed in the Winside area.  They moved to Norfolk in 2004 and Vernon worked many years at Arkfeld Manufacturing and at Mead Lumber until his retirement.  He enjoyed square dancing and playing cards in Kard Club which he was involved with for 60 years.  Vernon taught Sunday school for 18 years and he enjoyed watching Cornhusker sports activities.  He attended Christ Lutheran Church in Norfolk, and participated in numerous activities including: Square Dance Caller, Laurel Town Twirlers, then later the 49’ers.

Vernon is survived by his wife, Lois Miller of Norfolk, son Dale Miller of Blair, daughter Phyllis (Larry) Cleveland of Norfolk, daughter Carla (Jay) Dowler of Houston, TX, son LaVerle (Kathy) Miller of Grand Island, son Brent (Amy) Miller of Norfolk, daughter Coleene (Mitch) Robinson of Fort Calhoun, NE, son Kyle (Cindy) Miller of Laurel, 17 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. Sister LaJean (Warren) Marotz of Winside, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Vernon was preceded in death by parents Adolf and Ella Miller, sister Delaine Matthews, 3 great-grandchildren Kanaan, Corben, and Wyatt.
