Posted: 21 June, 2017

Memorial graveside services for Alice McIntyre, 92, of California, formerly of Winside, will be held Saturday, June 24, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at Pleasant View Cemetery in Winside.  She passed away on March 5, 2017 in California.  Arrangements are with Hasemann Funeral Home of Wayne.

Antoinette Dominska McIntyre was born November 20, 1924, in Warsaw, Poland and raised by her loving Grandmother.  In 1939, she left Warsaw with her aunt and uncle and relocated to Algeria, North Africa where she eventually met her husband, John McIntyre of Winside, NE who was serving overseas with the United States Army Air Corps.  They married in 1947, and after enjoying a wonderful honeymoon in Casablanca, they returned to John’s hometown of Winside where they began their new life and started a family.  In 1953, they left Nebraska for new opportunities in Los Angeles, CA.  Alice was multilingual; not only was she fluent in Polish, French, and English, but spoke some Spanish as well.  She taught French to young students at St. John’s Evangelist Catholic Schools in Los Angeles, CA.  Even while raising six children, she found time to help other children and families in need here and abroad.  Alice enjoyed traveling, music and the arts, always experiencing life’s adventure to the fullest.  She truly was a special woman that touched the lives of many.  She was so kind, giving, and nurturing; and never missing an opportunity to share her love and laughter.

Alice is survived by five: daughters, Mary Catherine, Christina, Mary Alice (Lance) Liza and Dorothy (Ray); one grandson, Michael (Lisa); three great-grandchildren, Daniel, Alexander, and William.  Alice was preceded in death by John, her husband of 56 years; son, Patrick; granddaughter, Michelle.  Those we love don’t go away; they walk beside us every day.  Unseen, unheard, but always near, still loved, still missed and very dear.  Her gentle smile and big heart will live with us forever.
