Mel Loberg, age 77, of Laurel

Mass Of Christian Burial for Mel Loberg, age 77, of Laurel will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Laurel on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. Visitation will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Laurel on Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. with family present. A Vigil Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Interment with Military Rites will be held at the Laurel Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Loberg family for later designation. He passed away Saturday at Hillcrest Care Center in Laurel. Arrangements with Hasemann Funeral Home of Laurel.
William Melvin Loberg was born June 20, 1939, in Randolph to Reynold Edward and Catherine Odelia (Hosch) Loberg. He attended country school and later graduated from Belden High School. He then served in the Nebraska Army National Guard for three years. Mel married Caroline Keifer February 20, 1960, at St. Jane Frances de Chantel Catholic Church in Randolph. The couple farmed near Belden and later near Laurel before moving into Laurel in 1978. Mel was a Petroleum Salesman for Laurel CO-OP and later Urwiler Oil Company in Laurel for many years. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Wayne Knights of Columbus Council #8579.
Mel is survived by his wife, Caroline; their children, Melvin, Jr. (Nancy) Loberg of Laurel, Carol (Jerry) Wolff of Ruthven, IA, Russ (Janell) Loberg of Wisner, Cindy (Kyle) Miller of Laurel, Michelle (Ted ) Jacot of Laurel; son-in-law, Rod Frederickson of Wisner; brothers, Vernon Loberg of Randolph and Harold (Janice) Loberg of Carroll; sisters, Ester (Jerry) Weidner of Lincoln and Betty (Ray) Bloomquist of Lincoln; sister-in-law, Lorna Loberg of Wayne; 20 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Mel was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Karen Frederickson; grandsons, Christopher Westerhaus and Wade Loberg; brother, Ray Loberg; brothers-in-law, Richard Keifer and Vernon Kelsey; sister-in-law, Beverly Loberg; parents-in-law Tony & Mercedes Keifer; two nephews and a niece.
