Lanny A. Petersen age 77 of Pilger

Funeral services for Lanny A. Petersen age 77 of Pilger, NE will be held on Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Pilger, NE. Interment with Military Honors will be in the Pilger Cemetery.
Visitation will be on Monday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and will continue on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Pilger, NE. Minnick Funeral Home in Wisner is handling the arrangements for the family.
Lanny passed away on Thursday, May 18, 2017 at the Stanton Health Center.
Lanny Axel Petersen was born on November 14, 1939, in rural Stanton Co., NE to Axel and Agnes (Miller) Petersen. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Pilger, NE. Lanny attended Stanton Co. Rural School District #50 through the first grade and attended Pilger Public Schools, graduating from Pilger High School in 1958. Lanny served in the United States Army from 1958 to 1960.
On February 12, 1961, Lanny and his high school sweetheart Valdene Vahle eloped and were married in Iowa. On Valdene’s 27th
birthday, they brought home their daughter, LaWanda, whom they adopted through the Nebraska Children’s Home in Omaha. Lanny worked for Wolverton Hay Co., was also engaged in farming and did custom farming. He later worked as a security guard at Pinkerton and Sherwood Medical in Norfolk. Lanny worked for a construction company that helped build the 3M plant in Norfolk and once completed went to work for 3M until his retirement in 1998.
Lanny was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Pilger. After the Pilger tornado in 2014, he and Val started and operated “The Rock Coffee Shop” at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. Lanny enjoyed participating in tractor rides, including the Northeast NE Tractor Ride for several years. He also enjoyed attending the grandchildren’s activities.

Lanny was preceded in death by his parents, and wife-Valdene on December 23, 2015.
