Funeral Services for Leona Nelson age 97, of Edmond, Oklahoma formerly of Wayne, will be held at Grace Lutheran Church in Wayne on Friday at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be held at Hasemann Funeral  Home in Wayne on Thursday, from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m.   Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Wayne. Memorials may be directed to the Emergency Tornado Aide fund with St. John’s Lutheran Church of Pilger. She passed away Sunday in Oklahoma City.

Leona Mary Ella Stuthman was born to Henry Stuthman and Dorothea (Koehlmoos) Stuthman on June 13, 1919, at her home near Pilger.  She was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church in Altona.  She attended school at District 18 in Stanton County and two years at Trinity Lutheran Parochial School in Altona. She was confirmed on April 9th, 1933, by Rev. E.J. Moede at Trinity Lutheran Church in Altona. Leona was married to PFC Harold N. Tiedtke on June 21, 1942, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Pilger by Pastor Walter H. Koenig.  Harold served his country in the Army in the Southwest Pacific area and was killed in action in Dutch New Guinea on October 11, 1944. Leona worked at the former Ben Franklin Store in Wayne during the mid-1940's. On March 10, 1949, she was married to Ivil E. Nelson at St, John's Lutheran Church in Pilger by the Reverend A. J. Bernthal. Leona and Ivil farmed on farms near Pilger (1949-1958); Wakefield (1958-1966) and Wayne (1966-1981) and retired to Wayne in 1981. Ivil passed away on April 3, 1995, at Wayne.  Leona moved to the Oaks in Wayne in August, 1996 and lived there until May, 2008, when she moved to Edmond, Oklahoma to Tealridge Independent Living to be closer to her son. On April 14, 2015, she moved to Copperlake Assisted Living in Edmond where she resided at the time of her death. Leona enjoyed playing cards, bingo, and dominoes; doing  crossword and jigsaw puzzles; gardening; attending local fairs, festivals and celebrations; and, particularly in her later years, listening to and singing along with old-time music.  Leona has been a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Wayne since 1958.
   Leona was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Harold Tiedtke and Ivil Nelson;  5 brothers, Carl and wife, Bertha, Ernst and wife, Pearl, Albert and wife, Elna; Arnold and wife, Faith, and Henry Jr.; 4 sisters, Elsie and husband, Hans Tietgen, Olga and husband, Arthur Dreyer, Clara and husband, Irvin Stunkel, and Alma and husband, Clarence Stradley; brothers and sisters-in law, Norman Nelson, Albin Nelson, Irvin and Adeline (Nelson), Solko and Lorene (Nelson) Brooks; two nephews, Deon Stuthman and Dennis Stradley; and one niece, Marlene (Stunkel) Timm.
   Leona is survived by son, Lyle of Edmond, Oklahoma; two sisters-in-law, Marcella (Sally) Stuthman of Pilger, and Raezella Nelson of Des Moines, Iowa; 22 nieces and nephews, and many great, and great- great and great -great -great nieces and nephews.
