Betty Meyer, age 86, of Wayne

Mass of Christian Burial for Betty Meyer, age 86, of Wayne will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Wayne on Friday at 10:30 a.m. Visitation will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church on Thursday from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. with a Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m. Interment will be at Veterans Memorial Cemetery  in Wayne. Memorials may be
 directed to the Meyer family for later designation. She passed away Saturday at Careage Campus of Care. Arrangements are with Hasemann Funeral Home of Wayne.

Elizabeth “Betty” Catherine Meyer was born February 2, 1931, on a farm near Atkinson to Nicholas and Elizabeth (Olinger) Schmit.  She graduated from St. Joseph Catholic School, Atkinson in 1948, and attended Wayne State College where she received her teaching certificate. She was a country school teacher for three years.   Betty married Milo Meyer June 18, 1952, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Atkinson.  The couple lived in Wayne and worked together in the operation of their company, Milo Meyer Construction.  They retired in 1989, and enjoyed spending winters in Mission, TX.  Betty enjoyed Holidays, spending time with family at their  home on the Missouri River, dancing, spending time with her many friends, hosting Husker parties, and was an avid golfer. Betty loved life and was the Life of the Party.
   Betty is survived by her sons, Steve (Cindy) Meyer of Wayne, Bryan “Bud” (Ann-Marie) Meyer of Gillette, WY, and Mark (Lona) Meyer of Wakefield; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brothers, John (Eileen) Schmit of O’Neill, George (Udonna) Schmit of Atkinson;  sisters, Catherine (James) Steinhauser of Stuart, Eleanor Jones of Creighton, Leona (Leonard) Troshynski of Guthrie Center, IA; brother-in-law, Leon (Melvy) Meyer of Wayne; sisters-in-law, Delores Schmit of Osmond, Patricia Schmit of Belmont, IA, Shirley Schmit, of Osmond;  nieces and nephews; and her best friend, Bonnie Otte of Wayne.
   Betty was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Milo in 2008; son, Terry in 2010; sisters, Mary Ann Osborne, Rose Mary Schmit; brothers, Mike, Nick, Richard, Raymond, Ben, and Clarence; brothers-in-law, Earl Jones, Richard Osborne, Norman Kluender, Vernon Lienemann, and Wallace Meyer; sisters-in-law, Mary Schmit, Doreen Schmit, Norma Kluender, Vernelda Lienemann, and Elta Meyer.
