Morris C. Backstrom, age 86, of Wayne

Memorial Services with Military Rites for Morris C. Backstrom, age 86, of Wayne will be held at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Wayne on Friday at 11:00 a.m. Memorial Visitation will be held at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Wayne on Thursday from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. with family present. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Wayne at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the Backstrom Family for later designation. He passed away Sunday at Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital in Omaha.
Morris Carr Backstrom was born January 6, 1930, on a farm near Wakefield in Dixon County to Emil and Lula (Carr) Backstrom.  He was baptized at Salem Lutheran Church in Wakefield and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Wayne.  In 1938, Morris moved with his parents to a farm in Wayne County.  He attended rural school and Wayne High School.  Morris served in the United States Armed Services from 1949 to 1950 in Austria. In 1952, he reentered the military, serving in France with the Engineers Aviation Battalion until 1954.   Morris married Bernadine Hollman at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Dixon County June 10, 1951.  The couple farmed southwest of Wayne from 1956 until they moved into Wayne in 1980.   He worked for a Farm Chemical Company until an injury in 1982.  He was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, a life member of the Wayne V.F.W. and previously served as commander for 4 years. 
   Morris is survived by his wife, Bernadine; their daughter, Diane Wolf of Stanton; grandsons, Tate (Becky) Wolf of Omaha, Alex Wolf of Chicago; great-granddaughter, Mathilda; sister-in-law, Blanche Backstrom of Laurel; brother-in-law, John Hill of Lincoln; and several nieces and nephews.
   Morris was preceded in death by his parents; son, Lyle in 1980; son-in-law, Ray Wolf Jr; brothers, Franklin (Margaretta), Lawrence, and Donald (Leona); sisters, Hazel (Ted) James and Ruth Hill; infant sister, Jeanette; two sisters-in-law, and one brother-in-law, and 7 nieces and nephews.
