Wayne High Football Fighting Back To Pick Up First Win

ARLINGTON – After two weeks from fighting back and falling short the Wayne High Football team had to come back from an early deficit yet again.


Following a scoreless first quarter the Blue Devils found themselves down early after two second quarter rushing touchdowns from the Arlington Eagles.

Wayne, like they have done in the past weeks, fought back to come within 8. Drew Davie ran in for a 3-yard touchdown run, PAT missed.

But unlike in past weeks the Blue Devils ran away with the game in the second half scoring three times.

Tyler Pecena ran in for a 6-yard score in the third, Davie tacked on another 13-yard scoring run, and Beau Bowers ran in for six 3-yards out both in the fourth quarter. Final score Wayne defeating Arlington 28-14 to improve to 1-2 while the Eagles fall to 0-3 overall.

Individually for Wayne Bowers completed 11-18 for 84 yards while throwing one interception and attempted five runs for seven yards and one touchdown on the ground.

Pecena paced the team in the rushing category with 27 attempts for 65 yards and one score while Davie ran nine times for 46 yards and two scores.

Through the air Grayson McBride caught three balls for 38 yards, Patyen Gamble five grabs for 26 yards, and Ryan Jaixen two catches for 14 yards.

Defensively for Wayne Davie had another outstanding game with 13 solo tackles.

The Wayne High Blue Devils will be back on the road next Friday, September 18 in Columbus. WHS will take on the Columbus Lakeview Vikings who also picked up their first win of the season Friday.
