Wayne Softball Drops Three in Classic

WAYNE – Going into a Class A oriented tournament the Wayne High Blue Devil softball team knew what they were getting into.
The Lady Blue Devils competed in the Lincoln Public Schools Softball Classic at the Doris Bair Complex Saturday, August 29.
Wayne fell to Grand Island 5-4, Lincoln Pius X 10-0, and Omaha Gross Catholic 5-1 to fall to 4-4 on the season.
Highlights from the Grand Island loss found Kortney Keller going 2-2 with two RBI’s and a run scored. Kennedy Maly also recorded two hits including a double and run scored.
From the shutout loss Wayne had a tough third inning. The team hit three batters, recorded three errors, and allowed seven runs all in the inning for Pius; all with two outs. The only two hits were from Danica Schaefer and Maly recording singles.
In the final game of the Classic Wayne started off by allowing two walks and committing two errors in a four run first inning from Gross Catholic. Ashten Gibson held the team to one run the remainder of the game. Kortney Keller recorded a RBI triple to score the lone run and Hannah Belt added a hit.
Wayne will continue their road adventure playing at Highway 91 on Tuesday, September 1. JV will start at 5 p.m. with the varsity to follow at 6:30 p.m.
