Northeast Nebraska Girls Golf Invite Held In Wayne

WAYNE – Changing days from a stormy late afternoon nine-hole day to a day full of mist and slick conditions is exactly what happened at the Wayne Country Club Friday.
The Wayne High Girl’s golf team went from finishing second in a nine-hole triangular Thursday to placing second in an 18-hole invitational Friday at the Wayne Country Club.
Battle Creek was the overall team winner shooting a 411, followed by Wayne’s 428, and third place from Crofton with a 461.
Wayne’s top four Individual scores (18-Holes): Kaitlyn McAllister (92-overall winner), Anna Loberg (105-eighth place), Ashyln Pecena (113-16th), and Meg Keiser (118-19th). Liz Junk shot a 198 to finish 42nd
Head WHS girl’s golf coach, Josh Johnson, said the team performed well today dealing with the muddy conditions.
“But our girls built on what they did yesterday pretty well,” said Coach Johnson. “I like where we are heading.”
Four out of the five varsity girl’s medaled and three of them had their personal bests. All led by Kaitlyn McAllister.
“(McAllister) Individualist won the tournament,” said Coach Johnson. “First time for a Wayne girl in about six years, so it was nice to see a Wayne girl at top at 92.”
McAllister said this was here personal best for the season but the team still needs to keep on practicing.
“I think if everyone practices enough,” McAllister mentioned. “And works more on their short game, and putting, and reading the greens I think we’ll be good. “
