Wayne High Softball Continues Dominance On The Road

WAYNE – Improving to a four-game win streak is exactly what the WHS softball team wanted to do on the road in O’Neill.
The Wayne High softball team improved to 4-1 on the season by shutting out the O’Neill Eagles 14-0 Tuesday evening. O’Neill fell to 1-3 overall.
Another fury of hits were recorded at the plate for the Lady Blue Devils. Kiara Hochstein went 4-4 with a double and two runs, Kortney Keller went 3-4 with two RBI’s, Danica Schaefer followed going 2-3 with three RBI’s and three runs, and Hannah Belt and Jenna Trenhaile each recorded two hits.
On the mound for Wayne, Hannah Belt threw the one-hit shutout win. She struck out six batters and walked another two.
Earlier in the evening the Junior Varsity teams squared off and Wayne defeated O’Neill 13-2. The Wayne JV improved to 1-1 on the season.
Darrian Hewitt recorded three hits and five RBI’s at the plate. While Ashten Gibson picked up the win with a one-hitter, striking out two batters.
The Wayne High softball team will now compete in the Lincoln Public Schools Softball Classic on Saturday, August 29. Games will be played at the Doris Bair Complex in Lincoln.
WHS will open the morning taking on, as of today, undefeated at 4-0 Grand Island at 11 a.m. Wayne will also play Lincoln Pius X and Omaha Gross Catholic later on in the day.
