WHS Softball Dominates Saturday Tournament

WAYNE – After dropping their season opener last Thursday the Wayne High softball team dominated in a tournament they hosted by outscoring their opponents 40-1.
The Blue Devils walked their way through to win the tournament played at the Wayne Softball Complex Saturday.
WHS defeated Pierce 10-0 to open up the tournament followed by a 14-1 win over Twin River and then a 16-0 shutout over Tekamah-Herman in the championship game.
In the win over Pierce Ashten Gibson recorded the win striking out nine batters. At the plate Jamie Gamble went 3-3 with a double and two runs while Kennedy Maly went 2-3 with a two RBI double.
Hannah Belt gave up only one hit while walking two batters and striking out six in the win over Twin River. The entire lineup scored in the third inning – plating 12 runs overall. Kiera Hochstein, Danica Schaefer, Jenna Trenhaile, Annie Kniesche, and Maly each recorded two hits.
In the final win over Tekamah-Herman Hanna Belt allowed one hit while striking out seven batters. At the plate Danica Schaefer went 3-4 and drove in four runs.
The Wayne High softball team will head back out on the road tomorrow, Tuesday, August 25, to take on the O’Neill Eagles at 6:30 p.m. The JV will play before at 5 p.m.
