WHS Softball Drops Road Opener To Class B School

WAYNE – The Wayne High softball team opened their 2015 season Thursday evening with a road game to Blair, a Class B school.
Wayne fell to the Blair Bears 4-2 to start the season 0-1 while Blair is 1-0. This was the fourth straight year that Wayne and Blair have opened the season up with Blair winning three out of four times. Wayne’s only win in the past four seasons was in 2013 with a 4-2 road win.
The Blue Devils did hold an early lead in the first inning as Kennedy Maly and Kortney Kellar recorded RBI hits.
But Wayne left the next 10 baserunners stranded the rest of the game.
Hannah Belt took the loss on the mound allowing four runs (two earned) off of five hits while striking out four batters.
At the plate Maly and Danica Schaefer were both 2-3.
Wayne will face Pierce in the first round of tournament that Wayne will be hosting this Saturday, August 22 at 9:30 a.m. Other teams within the one-day tournament are Tekamah-Herman, Twin River, Clarkson-Leigh, and Ord.
The Wayne JV also lost Thursday evening to the Blair JV’s. 3-2.
