The Wayne State College Wildcat women’s basketball team will visit Canada for four exhibition games and will be at home for 14 games, among the 27-game schedule for the 2015-2016 season. This was all announced by Wildcat head women’s basketball coach Chris Kielsmeier Tuesday.
Wayne State will return two starters and eight letter winners from last year’s team.
The Wildcats will face University of Winnipeg at 12 p.m. and Canadian Mennonite University at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, October 19 and compete with University of Manitoba at 12 p.m. and University of Winnipeg at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 20.
WSC will then open at Rice Auditorium, where they are 86-7 the past six years, on November 13 and 14 for a NSIC/MIAA/GLVC Crossover. Wayne will face Lindenwood (Mo.) from the MIAA on Friday at 6 p.m. and William Jewell from the Great Lakes Valley Conference at 4 p.m. on Saturday. Northern State will be the other NSIC School competing in the crossover.
Other non-conference games the Wildcat women’s basketball team will have this season include a road trip to Kansas City, Mo. to face Rockhurst on Wednesday, November 18, and over to in-state rival, Nebraska-Kearney on Saturday, November 28. Also the ‘Cats will host York College on Thursday, November 19.
WSC will open their 2015-2016 NSIC schedule at home against the rivals from up north, Augustana College Vikings, on Monday, November 23 at 6 p.m.
During the Wildcat women’s conference schedule they will be at Rice in Wayne for 11 games while on the road for 11 games.
The NSIC Sanford Health Women’s Basketball Tournament will open on Wednesday, February 24 with first round games being played at the higher seeds’ sight. The rest of the games will be played in Sioux Falls, South Dakota at the Sanford Pentagon on February 28, 29, and March 1.
The Central Regional a part of the NCAA Women’s basketball championship will take place at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls on March 22, 23, and 25.
The Wildcats finished 28-6 overall last year and 18-4 in conference play. WSC made their fifth trip in the last six seasons to the NCAA Division II National tournament. WSC was crowned the regular season NSIC champions for back-to-back years and fourth in past five seasons while being the runner-up in the conference tournament itself. Wayne State finished 18th in the final USA Today Sports/WBCA Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll last season.
