WAYNE – The (NSIC) Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference volleyball teams make up four of the top six teams in the AVCA (American Volleyball Coaches Association) Division II Top 25 Preseason Coaches Poll released Tuesday afternoon.
Among the four teams, Wayne State College comes in at the sixth spot. This is the highest preseason ranking for the Wildcat volleyball program and will continue the streak of consecutive national rankings at 75, which dates back to September 28, 2009.
University of Tampa, out of the Sunshine State Conference, will make up the top spot followed by Concordia-St. Paul in second, Southwest Minnesota State in third, and Minnesota Duluth in fourth all from the NSIC. The number five spot is Nebraska-Kearney from the MIAA.
The Wildcat volleyball team will return all six starters plus their libero from a team that finished 27-7 overall and 16-4 which was good for third in the NSIC last season. WSC made it past the first round of competition in the Central Region of the NCAA Division II national tournament by defeating Central Missouri before being swept by Minnesota Duluth.
Wayne State College is set to open their 2015 campaign in the Southern Indiana Tournament facing Northwood (Michigan) on Friday, September 4 at 11:30 a.m. Other teams WSC will face within the two-day tournament are Southwest Baptist, Kentucky Wesleyan, and Southern Indiana in Evansville, Indiana.
