WAYNE – There will be a Youth Rugby Camp held on Saturday, August 22 from 10 a.m. – noon at the WSC Rugby Complex.
Dr. John Tinsley, a chiropractor at Wayne Sport & Spine, is new to the community of Wayne as he has been in town since April 9 and started practice on April 22 of this year. But he is not new the sport of Rugby.
“I’m a rugby enthusiast and ref,” said Tinsley. “I run a tournament myself every two years and play on occasion.”
When Dr. Tinsley knew he was coming to Wayne to practice and he heard the WSC rugby team had a name in town he met Coach Darin Barner.
“We met out at the field in February on a freezing cold day,” Dr. Tinsley added. “And we got to talking and we were able to come to agreement that I would be able to help him and his goals on what he is doing with the team.”
Campers at the Youth Rugby camp will be learning the basics of the newest Olympic sport from the best and playing touch rugby.
“Pretty much the basics of what it means to play rugby,” said Dr. Tinsley. “Whether its 7’s, 15’s, beach rugby, or touch rugby. The basic principles to run forward pass backwards.”
Campers will go over drills for the first 45 minutes and then take a break and come back with an hour of competing in touch rugby with some of the Wayne State athletes playing as well.
Ages eight and up plus parents are encouraged to participate in this free Youth Rugby Camp.
There were 16 participants as of Thursday and you still can sign up to come out and learn more about the sport of rugby.
