National Dog Day is Sunday, August 26
th and the Wayne Bark Park group will be having an event from 11-3 at the Wayne
Bark Park location. The bark park will be located southwest of the Summer Sports Complex. Turn at the McDonalds intersection on Highway 35 and continue past the Cobblestone Hotel. If the weather is inclement, it will be held at the National Guard Armory. Taverns, hotdogs, chips, pop and water will be served. Plans are to have a bounce house, face painting, kids games, and dog games. Think Carnival....lots of color with balloons!!! Dawn Jacobson from Canine Design will be there from 11-3 giving out dog food samples and clipping dog’s toenails for a free will donation. Dr. Melissa from the Wayne Vet Clinic will be there from 1-3 promoting heart worm prevention and answering questions. The city granted the Bark Park organization permission to use the ground just south of the Wayne Summer Sports Complex. This is just one of the fundraisers planned to raise funds for fencing, signage, and dog waste dispensers. The size of the bark park will be about an acre with a small dog side and a large dog side. There will be a double gated entrance that will take you to either side of the area. There will be signs posting the do's and don'ts to keep peace amongst our 4-legged and 2-legged friends. There will also be dispensers that will hold plastic bags to pick up waste and a place to dispose of it. The fund raising goal is $15,000. If you would like to donate to the Wayne Bark Park you can send your donations to P.O. Box 275 Wayne, NE 68787. Rustic Treasures, located at 210 Main Street in Wayne has an account set up for us too. If you have some things you would like to get rid of, take it there. 50% of what is sold will go to Wayne Bark Park. You can also like them on Facebook to stay up to date on the Bark Park.
Another event coming up this week is the Dusk Dog Dive on Thursday August 16 from 8-10pm at the Wayne City Pool at 1220 Lincoln Street. $5 per dog.
