Scott Schreiber hits two homers to help Nebraska baseball defeat Northern Colorado

LINCOLN — Scott Schreiber’s hot hitting continued Wednesday as the senior hit two home runs to lead Nebraska to a 14-2 win over Northern Colorado.

Schreiber hit 3 for 4 with six RBIs and four runs scored on Wednesday after hitting 3 for 4 with one run scored against the Bears Tuesday.

The Huskers (10-7) scored three runs in the first inning off an RBI double from Jesse Wilkening and a two-run single from Luke Roskam.

Schreiber gave Nebraska a 7-0 lead in the second inning with a grand slam for his first homer of the game.

The Bears got one run back in the top of the fourth, but Schreiber pushed the Huskers’ lead to 9-1 with a two-run home run in the sixth inning.

Nebraska added five runs in the eighth inning to go ahead 14-2. Pinch hitter Mike Addante lead off with a double for his first career hit and Zac Repinski reached on a single.

Addante scored on a fielder’s choice from Angelo Altavilla and Schreiber was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Roskam walked to bring in one run and Jaxon Hallmark drove in two more with a single.

Jeff Athey reached base on an error to score the final two runs.

Right-hander Mike Waldron gave up one run with five strikeouts over 31⁄3 innings to earn the win in his first start of the season.

The Huskers open a three-game series against Northwestern State in Lincoln at 4:05 p.m. Friday.
