Nebraska track and field claims five titles at Simmons-Harvey Big Ten Invitational

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Ieva Turke won the long jump and finished second to teammate Angela Mercurio in the triple jump Saturday as Nebraska claimed five titles at the Simmons-Harvey Big Ten Invitational.

Turke’s marks of 19 feet, 7 inches in the long jump and 41-7¾ in the triple jump were both personal indoor bests. Mercurio notched a 42-11½ on her fifth attempt, claiming her second triple jump title of the season.

Senior Lakayla Harris, last year’s 60-meter runner-up at the Big 10 indoor championships, finished in 7.48 seconds to edge Penn State’s Brooke Williams (7.50). Harris also finished third in the 200 meters (24.20).

The Huskers swept the top two spots in the high jump, with Candice Dominguez winning at 5-8¾, ahead of Lara Omerzu at 5-7.

The lone win for the Husker men came in the 1,600-meter relay, with the team of Tony Nou, Bryce Barrett, Givon Washington and Isaiah Hutchinson finishing at 3:13.38.

Nebraska will compete in the Prairie Wolf Invitational on Friday before hosting the Mark Colligan Memorial on Saturday.​
