EVANSTON, Ill. — Nebraska lost its second straight game after building a big early lead Sunday in a 9-5 softball setback to Northwestern.
The Huskers (25-12) scored five runs in two innings before the host Wildcats (22-11) responded with nine runs, with the help of three Nebraska errors, to win the Big Ten series 2-1.
Nebraska scored two runs in the first inning on a ground ball to the left side by Kaylan Jablonski and a sacrifice fly by Bri Cassidy. Tristen Edwards had a three-run home run in the second inning, driving in Alyvia Simmons and Laura Barrow for a 5-0 Nebraska lead.
An error helped lead to five runs in the bottom of the third inning for Northwestern before the Wildcats scored two more in both the fourth and fifth innings to secure the victory. Nebraska had just five hits.
The Huskers are scheduled to face UNO at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Westside Field at Westbrook in Omaha.
