Husker softball loses to Michigan State in first round of Big Ten tournament

MADISON, Wis. — Nebraska’s season ended with its ninth loss in 10 games, a 4-3 defeat against Michigan State in the Big Ten tournament.

Olivia Ferrell (9-8) took the loss, pitching 21⁄3 innings and giving up four earned runs on four hits and two walks.

Michigan State had a 4-0 lead before the Huskers scored all of their runs in the top of the fourth inning. Laura Barrow led off with a single and scored on what was supposed to be a sacrifice bunt by Gina Metzler.

A throwing error allowed Metzler to go to second base while Sarah Yocum, who drew a walk after Barrow’s single, moved to third base. Alyvia Simmons singled to score Yocum before Taylor Otte’s double drove in Metzler with what proved to be Nebraska’s final run.
