Husker bowling losses to No1 seed Vanderbilt in NCAA consolation bracket

WICKLIFFE, Ohio — The Nebraska bowling team lost to top-seeded Vanderbilt 2-1 in the consolation bracket at the NCAA championship Saturday.

The Huskers fell to the Commodores 992-947 in the traditional match before winning the Baker match 984-913. NU dropped the best-of-seven tiebreaker 1,240-1,186.

Vanderbilt lost in the national final against Stephen F. Austin on Saturday night. Meghan Straub led the Huskers with an individual average of 242. Estefania Prieto finished with an average of 203.

Husker bowling loses in semifinals

WICKLIFFE, Ohio — Nebraska lost its semifinal match Friday at the NCAA bowling championships, but the Huskers head into the final day of the tournament still hoping to win their sixth national title.

Defending national champion Vanderbilt defeated the Huskers 2-0 in the mega-match format. The teams will square off again Saturday at 8 a.m. with the winner moving into the Saturday’s 5:30 p.m. title match against Stephen F. Austin.

In Friday’s semi, Vanderbilt won the traditional match 1,089-1,066, despite Nebraska senior Meghan Straub rolling a 267. Then in the five-game Baker set, the Huskers lost another high-scoring matchup as Vanderbilt won 1,068-1,036.

So far at nationals, Straub has led Nebraska with a 254.7 average, while junior Allison Morris is next with a 207 average.
