Speed Limit Changes Take Effect

LINCOLN – Nebraska drivers are going to be allowed to go a little faster on state roadways.

On Friday, Legislative Bill 1009 took effect, changing speed limits on state highways and expressways. The posted limits went from 55/60 up to 65 on highways, and increased from 65 to 70 on expressways.

The bill was introduced to the Nebraska Legislature on January 16, with the intent being to align Nebraska’s speed limits with the on-the-ground driving conditions in accordance with engineering and traffic standards. The bill was presented to Governor Pete Ricketts on April 11, who then approved the action on April 17.

The Nebraska Department of Transportation reminds drivers that posted speed limits remain the legal traveling speed.
