Norfolk Catholic’s Ethan Piper Picks Up Nebraska Offer
2019 DL Ethan Piper - Norfolk Catholic

NORFOLK — 2019 Norfolk Catholic defensive lineman Ethan Piper will have the opportunity to choose to play college football at Memorial Stadium.

The standout lineman was offered a scholarship over the phone from Nebraska Head Coach Scott Frost on Wednesday night.  It is Piper’s third Division One offer after Iowa and Ohio.

He is not committed to Nebraska but says it is the offer he has been hoping for.

“I’m really excited about this offer,” Piper said over the phone on Wednesday.  “I love the chance to make Nebraska football great again.”

The 6’4” 265-pound lineman says Defensive Coordinator Erik Chinander and Inside Linebackers Coach Barrett Ruud were his main points of contact prior to Frost offering the scholarship.  He says the Huskers staff started recruiting him about one month ago.

Piper says he grew up a Nebraska fan and that he was able to develop a better relationship with Ruud and Frost because of their Nebraska roots.

“I’m still in shock from getting the offer,” Piper said.  “My heart has always been with the Huskers.”

Piper will make a previously scheduled visit to Iowa this weekend.  He says he will talk with the Iowa coaches about the Nebraska offer.

He says he plans to make a decision on his commitment early next week.

Piper anchored the offensive and defensive lines for Norfolk Catholic’s Class C-1 State Championship team in 2017.  The Knights went 13-0 and beat Boone Central/Newman Grove 35-0 in the championship game.
