Meteorologists with the National Weather Service in Omaha/Valley are advising people along rivers and streams to prepare for “substantial rises” in river levels this week.

According to recent forecasts, multiple rounds of showers with heavy rainfall could lead to three to five inches of rain across the region with a few locations expected to experience minor to moderate flooding.

“River flooding will continue along the Missouri River downstream from Omaha for the foreseeable future,” the National Weather Service said Sunday night. “A period of prolonged moderate flooding is now forecast for Brownville and Rulo.”

A flood watch remains in effect for the area until Wednesday morning, however, forecasters anticipate many flood warnings will be issued Monday morning for area rivers and streams.

“Area rivers will experience substantial rises through Tuesday and could be reaching flood levels by Tuesday night or early Wednesday,” the NWS said.
