Governor Links Diversity To Ag’s Growth Potential

UNION — Gov. Pete Ricketts said diversity is important to the state’s agriculture future during his Explore Ag Tour Thursday.

State Sen. Rob Clements and state Ag Director Steve Wellman joined the governor  at Wostrel Family’s Union Orchard.

Ricketts: “We’ve really got a lot of diverse agriculture in our state that adds to the overall vibrancy of our total industry. And it is absolutely critical that we highlight this because if we want to grow our state we’ve got to grow agriculture.”

The orchard adds value to its produce by turning apples into cider, making a variety of baked goods, hosting outdoor concerts and story tellers.

Wellman said diversity is working in Nebraska.

Wellman: “It really just shows what Nebraska can do to add value to the products we raise here and to serve the needs of the customers and consumers in Nebraska. It’s a great combination from East to West.”

Next month’s portion of the governor’s Explore Ag Tour will be focused on Nebraska’s county fairs.
