WILBER, Neb. — Aubrey Trail will stand trial in connection with the death of Sydney Loofe.

Trail appeared in person Tuesday morning in Saline County Court in Wilber and waived his right to a preliminary hearing. The case will be tried in Saline County District Court.

Trail has been charged with first-degree murder and improper disposal of human skeletal remains in connection with the death of Loofe, 24.

Loofe disappeared in November after going out on a date with Bailey Boswell, a woman she had met online. Her remains were found Dec. 4 and 5. Court documents released last week indicate that the Lincoln Menards clerk was strangled with an electrical cord. Her body, those records say, was dismembered and left along a gravel road in garbage bags by Boswell and Boswell’s boyfriend, Trail.

During the brief hearing, Trail also told the judge that he wants public defenders Ben and Joe Murray to represent him.

Trail appeared in person because he said that he had difficulty seeing and hearing in his first appearance, which occurred via video.

Boswell also had a brief hearing Tuesday. She appeared via video. Her attorney, Todd Lancaster of the Nebraska Commission on Public Advocacy, asked that the hearing be continued, and the judge granted that request.

Boswell will be back in court for the hearing next month. She has also been charged with first-degree murder and improper disposal of human skeletal remains in connection with Loofe’s death.
